Knighton Community Woodlands Group
We are seeking new volunteers to help out on task days in local woodlands. We learn and share woodland skills, use those skills to improve habitats for wildlife and allow our members access to affordable woodland products. Knighton Community Woodlands Group (KCWG) is local people coming together to enjoy, conserve and enrich our environment.
The tasks are fun and give you a real sense of achievement at the end of the day. We provide all the tools and training needed. Some of the skills we can teach you include biodiversity surveys, coppicing, safe use of hand tools, cutting and properly seasoning firewood, and managing woodlands for wildlife. We work fairly short days, partly so that parents can join us on Thursdays and still be at the school gate in time to collect their children.
All volunteers gain knowledge and skills and you get plenty of fresh air and exercise. Our volunteer programme allows you to directly benefit local habitats and potentially reduce your carbon footprint by growing a sustainable source of wood-fuel, timber and other woodland products. The good company of fellow volunteers and the inclusivity of the group also helps to develop our local community.
Skills required: None! You just need enthusiasm and we will match your skills and abilities to a task that needs doing. You will be supported by an experienced and knowledgeable group who have been running for over 10 years. There's lots more information on our website.
